Testimonials

Martin Westerfield

British resident, Phuket

I came to Chinda Law after realising I had no will in place for my property here, even after fifteen years of living in Phuket. The process was straightforward — we had a proper conversation first, then the draft was prepared. I appreciated that everything was explained before I signed anything.

My mother passed away and left a complicated situation — land, a business share, and no will. Khun Supawan handled it with great patience. The probate took several months, which she warned us about from the start, so we were not surprised. We were kept informed throughout.

I needed a succession plan that accounted for assets in both France and Thailand. Chinda Law was clear about what Thai law covers and what falls outside their scope. That honesty was helpful. The plan they produced was sensible and the written document has already been shared with my notary in Lyon.

I was handling the estate of my father, who had left things somewhat unclear between my two siblings and me. The team at Chinda Law helped us find a path through it without the family situation becoming worse. That was the main thing I wanted from the process, and it worked out.

A focused, professional service. The consultation took about ninety minutes and covered things I had not thought to ask about — what happens to a leasehold if the lessee dies, for instance. The draft will arrived a week later. I would have appreciated a slightly faster turnaround, but the quality was good.

I was recommended to Chinda Law by a colleague who had used them for probate. My own matter was simpler — a succession plan for my small business and personal assets. The advice was sensible and not overlong. I left knowing what was covered and what still needed attention on my side.

Selected Case Summaries

These summaries are drawn from real engagements, with identifying details changed.

Challenge

A retired British couple, long-term Phuket residents, had no Thai wills. Their assets included a condominium and significant bank savings. They were unsure whether their home-country wills would cover the Thai property.

What We Did

We prepared separate Thai wills for each spouse, explained the scope of Thai probate relative to their foreign wills, and drafted a summary note for their UK solicitor. Two meetings over three weeks.

Result

Both clients left with valid Thai wills, a clear understanding of how their estate would be handled, and a document their UK solicitor could work alongside. The matter was concluded in 3 weeks.

"We had been meaning to sort this out for years. It turned out to be far simpler than we expected."

Challenge

A Thai woman inherited a share of her father's land from an estate without a will. Three siblings were involved, one living abroad, and there was disagreement about the division. Probate was required.

What We Did

We managed the probate application, liaised with the overseas sibling's local representative, and prepared all court documentation. Each phase was explained in writing before proceeding.

Result

Probate concluded after approximately six months. The land was formally divided according to the court order. All three siblings accepted the outcome without further dispute.

"The cost outline at each stage meant there were no surprises. That mattered when the family was already under strain."
